Veteran Leaders Green, Iguodala Help Golden State Capture a 3-0 Lead After A Tough Game In Denver

By Liam Willerup

It was well aware that Nikola Jokic wasn’t going to be quiet this whole series. After all, he’s in line to become a back-to-back MVP after his historic statistical season. However, Golden State was able to close out the game and set themselves up for a chance to win the series on Sunday in Denver. Klay, Poole and Curry all scored 26+ points in the 118-113 win, but the two players who made the biggest impact in my eyes throughout the fourth quarter were veterans Andre Iguodala and Draymond Green. Green, one of the league’s premier defensive players and an elite playmaker, was able to stay composed late in the fourth with five fouls and make the game-ending steal on Jokic. Green had the highest plus/minus out of the Golden State starting unit Thursday night, but his impact can not be expressed through simple box score numbers. In addition, Andre Iguodala played impactful minutes down the stretch for Golden State, logging in 16 minutes. After being away from the team for a few seasons, Iguodala has found his way back on the team and helped carve himself a role in a big Game Three win.

Looking at Denver, the absence of Jamal Murray was very evident down the stretch for them. Of course Jokic is going to be able to produce for you, but the lack of a strong perimeter presence made it hard for the Nuggets to match the production from the three headed monster for the Warriors. The defense though was much improved for the Nuggets, as Aaron Gordon stepped up big time. Gordon saw a lot of possessions being the primary defender on Curry, and his size and athleticism made it hard for the two-time MVP to get around him. However, Denver is faced with the reality that Jordan Poole and Klay Thompson are still threats on the court, as both players continue to shoot the ball with great efficiency.

Heading into Game Four for Golden State, it should be a primary focus for them to keep Curry at an optimal minute restriction to avoid any injury going forward. As much as closing out the series in four would allow Golden State ample rest until they discover their opponent for the next round, Steve Kerr and the rest of the staff need to make sure Steph avoids an injury at all costs. As long as the Warriors stick to their style of play, keep Draymond out of foul trouble, and force everyone but Jokic to beat them, Golden State shouldn’t have much of a problem in closing this series out. I still see a possibility of Denver getting a game in this series, but Jokic will need to replicate his 37 point 18 rebound outing if they want any hope in extending this series. For now, Golden State should start to game plan for a potential series against the Grizzlies, who just overcame a 26 point deficit in Minnesota to capture a one game series lead.

CFB Players Destined for Breakout Seasons

CFB Players Destined for Breakout Seasons By Liam Willerup      Every year in College Football, players seem to defy expectations and turn into stars before our eyes. Alabama's Mac Jones was far from being viewed as a 1st round talent before last season. Same goes for players like Jaelan Phillips, Zach Wilson, and Kyle Pitts. Looking into the next college football season, there seems to be a plethora of candidates to have a breakout season and propel their draft stock. Emory Jones, QB Florida        With the departure of Kyle Trask, Kyle Pitts, and Kadarius Toney, many will be quick to write off those Gators in Gainesville. However, there is plenty of hope in the college football community that the next in line for QB will be perhaps more impressive than Heisman finalist Kyle Trask. The #5 Dual Threat QB in the 2018 Recruiting Class behind talents like Justin Fields and Dorian Thompson-Robinson, Emory Jones might be the truth. On paper the Flori...

MLB Team Tiers with a World Series Prediction

MLB Team Tiers with a World Series Prediction By: Carson Hull September is coming, and playoff positions are rounding into shape. There are plenty of teams with October ambitions, but those ambitions vary depending on the team. In this article, I’ve included every team that could potentially make a run at the World Series. Each team will be in three tiers depending on how confident I feel in that team potentially making and winning a championship.  Tier 1: The “Ya, that checks out” tier: Astros, Dodgers, Braves, Mets, and Yankees These are the cream of the crop. Each of these teams I can confidently say I would not be surprised if they won the 2022 World Series. The Houston Astros might be the most complete team in this tier. They have an elite bullpen, ace(Verlander), starting staff, alpha hitter(Yordan) and lineup. This team can beat you in so many ways. Same with the Mets. They have power coming from Alonso, Lindor, Vogelbach and Marte, plus guys that...

The Rise of Donovan Mitchell and How Good is He?

By Liam Willerup           Heading into the 2017 NBA Draft, Donovan Mitchell was a much overlooked recruit. In terms of shooting guards in that class, he wasn't even ranked the highest (that honor going to Kentucky guard Malik Monk). However as the story goes, a phenomenal workout with the Utah Jazz was enough for them to make a move up to Pick #13 to select the guard out of Louisville. Today, Donovan Mitchell is easily one of the best shooting guards in the game. Probably only ranking behind players like Harden, Beal, and Booker (due to his Finals berth). The biggest news about him in recent weeks has been Stephen A. Smith's take that he is already the best player in Utah Jazz franchise history. While that is disrespectful to players like John Stockton and Karl Malone, Mitchell is not a stretch to have his name in that discussion down the line. A player who has averaged 20 PPG every season of his career so far, Mitchell has plenty of upside as a player. He stil...
